I am new to alt tuner and I got this message after loading the first recommended demo project. I am using an iMac and the latest edition of Reaper.

Can you load alt-tuner manually?

Open "solo play.rpp", one of the sample Reaper projects
click on the "fx" button on the midi track
if you get a dialog box titled "FX: Track 1 midi", click the "Add" button in the lower left
you should get a dialog box titled "Add FX to Track 1 midi"
with "all plugins" selected on the left, type in "alt" at the bottom (filter)
you should see alt-keyswitcher, alt-tuner, etc.
double-click alt-tuner to load it.

OS: OSX 10.5.4, OS X 10.9.5, Windows 7

I tried loading it manually, but it was not in the path to VST objects. Now that I have added the non-standard path, as well as pasting the files by hand into the VST folders, I get this message:

The following effects were in the project file and are not available. REAPER will keep their configurations, but things may not sound as desired.

   Track 1: JS: MIDI/aftertouch-converter
   Track 1: JS: MIDI/alt-keyswitcher
   Track 1: JS: MIDI/alt-tuner

What extension are these supposed to have? I assume it is .JS They show up without extensions even though I have "show all file extensions" turned on.

I guess the two important questions are these: Where are the alt-tuner files supposed to be on a Mac, and are they supposed to have extensions?

OK, I figured it out. Ignore the last three. Still getting used to doing this on a Mac.

On a mac, it should be in /Users/yourname/Library/Application Support/REAPER/Effects/MIDI

No extensions in the filename.

You may have moved the whole alt-tuner folder in there, instead of just the contents of the folder. That's OK, it will still work, but you'll need to manually load alt-tuner into the sample projects.
